Principals' Workshop at Ramakrishna Mission, Delhi
The Awakened Citizen Program is an initiative taken up by Ramakrishna Mission, Delhi which is a branch centre of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal. Ramakrishna Mission is a worldwide philanthropic organization founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1897 with the motto of "Atmano Moksartham Jagad Hitaya cha" i.e. “For one’s own liberation, and for the welfare of the world”.
The Delhi centre of Ramakrishna Mission has been working on Value Education programs for school children since 2009. It launched ACP in its current form in 2014, which was envisioned with new teaching methodologies and curriculum framework.
Awakened Citizen Program is a 3-year graded value education program starting in middle school, comprising a total of 48 modules of approximately 45 minutes each. Each class goes through 16 modules per year. Proper facilitation by the teachers encourages students to think from various angles, participate in the discussions, and learn from peers; all of which are crucial for the program to have a high impact on the students.
The emphasis is on students discovering the values rather than being told what is "right" or "wrong". The methodology followed by ACP revolves around a 4-step unfolding of Discovery, Acceptance, Reflection, and Transformation within the child.
